FAQs

Q:  What do you mean by “strategic” plan?

A:  This plan is intended to define the economic and community development goals for Carlyle.  The plan is also intended to define the range of objectives and actions the City could take to reach those goals.  From these objectives, the City and community will be able to prioritize those that: (1) we are able to accomplish; and (2) have the greatest impact on reaching the City’s goals.

Q:  Will Carlyle residents have input on this plan?

A:  Absolutely!  Community involvement is extremely important.  Emphasis is also placed on the fact that what is currently being presented is a draft plan.  Please contact Bill Gruen using the information above should you have any input.  Please also contact your aldermen or Mayor Van Johnson should you have any comments.  Furthermore, community meetings will be scheduled at later dates to allow the public to discuss a Carlyle strategic plan and to offer suggestions.

Q:  Will Carlyle be able to accomplish every objective included in the plan?

A:  No, the intent is not to accomplish every objective in the plan.  It won't be possible given the expense the City would have to incur.  Rather, the intent of this plan is to conceive of every possible objective or action the City could take to reach our goals of community growth so that they may be prioritized.

Q:  What happens next?

A:  Additional sections of the strategic plan will be published on this webpage as they become ready.  We will seek input from the community throughout this entire process.  When a draft plan is fully published and after the community has had ample opportunity to comment on the plan, it will ultimately be considered by the Carlyle City Council.  It will be up to the Council to finalize the plan itself.  It will also be up to the Council to approve how City resources are allocated in order to accomplish the plan's objectives and to reach our goals.

Q:  How can the community be involved in this plan?

A:  In addition to having input on this strategic plan, community involvement will be pivotal when we being implementing an approved plan.  To be sure, the City, with its current staff and resources, will not be able to accomplish every objective on its own.  In fact, this plan is intended to excite volunteers and organizations to get involved in accomplishing the objectives of the plan for betterment of Carlyle.
