Fire Department
Fire protection in Carlyle is provided jointly by the Carlyle and the Beckemeyer-Wade Fire Protection Districts. They Carlyle FPD is responsible for service in Carlyle Township, while Beckemeyer-Wade is responsible for service in Wade Township. Both districts are served with fully trained volunteer firefighters dedicated to fire protection services in both areas, totaling approximately 50 volunteers. Chief Kenneth Bromley oversees the Beckemeyer-Wade FPD, which can be reached at 618-227-8500. Chief James Mahlandt oversees the Carlyle FPD, which can be reached at 618-594-2451.

EMT/Ambulance
Paramedic services are provided by MedStar Ambulance, Inc., which has a centrally located station in Carlyle at the corner of Franklin and 13th streets. MedStar provides paramedic (ALS) and basic defibrillator (BLS-D) services. MedStar’s local emergency number is 618-594-2378 or 1-800-426-9281. MedStar provides paramedic services in Clinton, Randolph and St. Clair counties.

PARK & RECREATON
Carlyle Park Department
The Carlyle Park Department organizes a series of camps for children throughout the summer. The Park Department operates the Carlyle City Park, the Fish Hatchery Park and the Bruemmer Park.

The Carlyle City Park is home to the City Pool, which is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, a nine “hole” Frisbee course, tennis courts and a public baseball diamond. There are also several pavilions and playgrounds available for public use. Bruemmer Park is also home to playgrounds. The Fish Hatchery Park has pavilions available for use by the public for parties and get-togethers, as well as fishing. The Park & Recreation Director is Dave Redeker. MUNICIPAL SERVICES
Street & Alley Department
The Carlyle Street and Alley Department is responsible for the maintenance of Carlyle streets, alleys, sidewalks and drainage systems. The Street and Alley Dept. has four full-time staff and is funded with City revenues, including Illinois Motor Fuel Taxes.

Municipal Water
A new water treatment plant was completed in 1996 which will supply the water needs of Carlyle residents, commerce, and industry, in addition to several surrounding water districts, well into the Twenty-First Century.

Municipal Sewer
The City currently maintains an aerated lagoon sewer system which has a capacity of 709,000 gallons per day; present load is approximately 550,000 (gpd). Property has been acquired for expansion of the city's wastewater treatment facilities to meet anticipated future needs.

CASE-HALSTEAD LIBRARY
The library provides Carlyle residents with free access to research information, reading materials to meet all interests and free Internet access. The library maintains approximately 26,000 items, including books, videos for adults and children, audio books, children’s books with puppets, magazines and CDs. In addition to its in-house holdings, the Case-Halstead Library has access to additional books and materials through the interlibrary loan system. The library also houses several items that are useful to persons doing genealogy research.

The Case-Halstead Library is located at the former home of Eckstein Case, who donated the house in 1938 to the City of Carlyle for the library. The house was originally constructed in 1860, but the library financed additions in 1975 and 1993.
